From December 20 to 22, the "2023 5th China International Coal Gasification Conference", co-hosted by MEI HUAKE and Coal Chemical 365 Think Tank, was held in Chengdu, Sichuan. Experts and enterprise representatives in China's coal gasification field gathered to discuss industry development. CAS Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter ZHGAS) was invited to participate.

On the afternoon of December 21, Yang Shaojun, Deputy General Manager of ZHGAS, delivered a keynote report titled "CGAS Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal/Biomass Gasification Technology: System Solutions for Syngas and Industrial Fuel Gas Production". He elaborated on:

  • R&D and industrialization of CGAS technology;

  • Core advantages (e.g., adaptability to diverse coal/biomass, low emissions);

Industrial applications demonstrated through high-quality projects:

  • Xinjiang Yihua Coal Gasification Project,

  • Indonesia Xiangsheng CFB Gasification Project,

  • Shandong Rongxin Pure-Oxygen Circulating Fluidized Bed Gasification Coupled with Fly Ash Melting Gasification Project,

  • Dongfang Hope Sanmenxia CFB Gasifier Project,

  • Xinjiang Dongfang Hope CFB Coal Gasification Project,

  • Guangxi Longzhou CFB Gasification Project.

Regarding gasification waste residue from entrained-flow/fluidized-bed systems, he proposed:

High-carbon fine slag → Utilized via fine slag preheating gasification or residual carbon combustion to produce coal gas/high-pressure steam;

Ongoing projects:

  • Xinjiang Tianye Carbon-Based Solid Waste Resource Utilization (first entrained-flow slag treatment),

  • Shandong Rongxin Gasification Fly Ash Recycling (first CFB fine slag melting project),

  • Linzhou Fengbao Residual Carbon Treatment (first operational residue combustion project).

Regarding the issue of gasification waste residue generated by entrained-flow and fluidized-bed coal gasification systems, it was proposed that for gasification fine slag with high carbon content, the unburned carbon can be utilized through fine slag preheating gasification technology or residual carbon combustion technology to produce coal gas or high-temperature, high-pressure steam, thereby achieving efficient cascaded utilization of coal resources. This approach enhances the overall energy efficiency and economic benefits of gasification systems while generating significant environmental and social advantages. Currently, ZHGAS's first entrained-flow gasification slag treatment project—the boiler section of Xinjiang Tianye's Carbon-Based Solid Waste Resource Utilization and Waste Heat/Pressure Recovery Project—and its first fluidized-bed fine slag melting gasification project—Shandong Rongxin's Gasification Fly Ash Comprehensive Utilization Project—are under construction, while its first residual carbon combustion treatment project—the Linzhou Fengbao Residual Carbon Combustion Project—has been commissioned and is fully operational.

As a leading industrial enterprise under the Chinese Academy of Sciences' "Hongguang Initiative," ZHGAS consistently aligns technological innovation with industrial demands. By addressing practical production challenges through technology integration, system optimization, engineering development, and market promotion, it achieves the industrial application of scientific research outcomes. This approach not only accelerates the transformation of R&D achievements into tangible productivity but also drives green, low-carbon, and high-quality development in the coal gasification sector.
